30 Weeks For Goodness Sakes

The girls are 30 weeks and will be 7 months old on Tuesday. SEVEN freaking months. I can't stand it. Time is simply flying by - and my days are allowing only about 2 hours with them before bedtime.  Even though we are pushing back bedtime a bit, I'm usually spending that extra time convincing them that I am fun and funny and worth staying up another 10 minutes.  I do cherish the time with E & S, so much.

I am amazed about the changes from day to day - the new experimental noises, the army crawl to pulling up/over, to stealing toys from one another.  Today I was sitting on the floor watching S bang stacking cups together. One was in her left hand, the other in her right hand, and she was maneuvering her wrist in order to bang them together.  Such a precise movement.  I just can't believe that the brain is developing so quickly, although I delight in these new developments.  E was playing over the air vent on the floor today - pulled herself up to it and was banging on it (her fave pastime).  Just then, the heat came on and starting blowing air up in her face. Her wispy hair was flying up, and she sucked in her breath in surprise.  Then she turned her head back at me and just started laughing!! She would turn back at me and then pull herself back over the vent and giggle.  She was having such a great time playing this game!

Tomorrow we have our first Halloween party, so I'll be sure to post pictures.  Until then, here are some from the 30 week Friday picture session (and the day beforehand)!
 Look at those teeth!
They faced one another when we sat them down, and the arms stayed when facing us.
S was all over the place - you can tell because her hair is brushed in her face!
Not sure what's up with S's barrette, and I think that E is doing some ballet move

S is VERY into books. She grabs at the letters and pictures.

Mobility

I thought I'd take a moment to appreciate mobility.  I am so thankful that I can freely walk around from one point to another, with relative ease.  I don't have to be "stuck" in the same spot every day, nor do I have to rely on others to move me.

I imagine that my girls see me walking freely around them and they think "Hey! I want to move around, too!" or "I can get that myself - I know I can!"

Wee-bits, let me tell you, mobility is not what it's cracked up to be.  I won't be able to snuggle you between bouncy chair and exersaucer.  I won't have many moments hovering over you while you lay on the ground playing.  Our precious little moments together where I am right in front of you, and it's just you and me.  Instead it will be me... chasing after you... as you look ahead.

You now want to roll away.  And mobile me is frozen, in shock, as I watch you scootch away and discover a new independence you have never felt before.

So, instead, I will be there to rescue you when you scoot somewhere far away and out of sight. Places where you will whimper or shout to let us know that you have gotten yourself stuck.  Places a little too-close to sharp corners or floor vents (which I'm sure are fun until you start wanting to drop things down in them).

So, while I am thankful for my own mobility, I am a bit sad that you are finding yours.

28 Weeks

My little readers.  Nothing like a quiet morning with some lovely reading materials.
So, so tired from a long day... but they were troopers for a few shots!
Violet keeping Emma entertained while we wait for Sophie to put her PJs on.
 Nice high kick, eh?
Serious(ly tired) Sophia.

24 Weeks

I can hardly believe how fast this time is going with E & S. They are growing in so many ways... discoveries every day!

E enjoys pointing and she has really started staring at her hands as they play or touch. She also still enjoy screaming and banging her hands (or toys) on the table or other toys. If we lay her on the floor these days - she inevitably rolls onto her tummy and then ends up scooching around in all different directions. This morning I left her on the floor to get a glass of water, and when I came back she was completely off of the blanket totally in a different direction from what I left her.

S has been content not rolling, but if put on her tummy she will squish up her little legs under her tummy and then push herself forward. Scooching in a straight line is her thing - not much turning around, except in the middle of the night in the crib.

Both girls are giggly and enjoy laughing at Jack. Jack will sneeze - or really make any noise - and the girls will just stare at him and laugh. It's so much fun to watch. I started laughing today and Sophie would laugh along with me. She thought my laughter was just the funniest thing.

6 months is just around the corner. We have been trying out some solids - rice cereal, oatmeal, and sweet potatoes mostly. A quick taste of my banana the other day, as well! They haven't put that much interest into it - but seem to be enjoying the food. I have cut back on pushing it because they seem to decrease the formula when they eat solids - which I don't want them to do.

Sophia & Emma: Babies

Break out the outlet covers and cabinet locks. It's closer than we think. Here's the proof.

I'll just rush everything to her, so she won't ever have to move. That'll work, right?

Sigh.

Greg and I were just talking about when we stop calling them "babies." I have no idea. And while I believe they are far from escaping the "baby" title, they are growing and learning at an amazing rate. Every day there's something new.

22 Weeks

She just had to stand up. She was so tired and this was the only way I could get her to stop fussing!

I can't believe it. I feel like we are so busy, even though the girls are becoming a bit more independent. They enjoy playing on the floor on their play mat - listening to music, grabbing and playing with the toys hanging above them! They also really enjoying playing in the exersaucer and jumper - grabbing, leaning, talking... it's great to see and hear.

Emma loves to scream. Blood-curdling scream... although she thinks it's hilarious! She'll scream and then smile up at us. Her first attempt at comedy! Emma is also rolling over - but mostly rolls from her back to tummy and then gets stuck.

Sophia is not rolling over as much - she would much rather laugh at Emma doing all the hard work. Sophia enjoys talking to her toys as she plays with them - and she is laughing a lot these days. Sophie has been the great eater of solid foods - right from the start - and she now leans forward with her mouth open to get more!

I started back to work this week, which means that my Grandma is now watching them on a daily basis. Everyone seems to be adjusting accordingly. Naps are a little off, and the girls are really tired when I get home, but I think it will level out in no time! The girls seem to be loving the GG time during the day. I miss them like crazy - but it's nice knowing they are home. Even if I'm not there with them.
